About Arbour Care’s Enrichment Programme

“Supporting our clients to thrive”

Included as part of Arbour Care’s person-centred care packages, we offer you our highly acclaimed Enrichment Programme of Activities. This service is unique to Arbour Care and is led by Jane, our dedicated Enrichment Activities Coordinator.

Working together and having in-depth conversations with you, your family and carers we find out what interests you and makes you happy. We then create a personalised programme of activity that includes daily options and suggestions for you to choose from, to help promote your all-round mental, physical and emotional well-being, and bring you joy. All of these are tailored to your individual wishes, abilities and interests and based within your own home and, wherever possible and desirable, out in your local community.

Our Philosophy & Our Aim

“Let’s not pretend getting older is easy, but there’s so much more to living than just getting by!”

At Arbour Care we believe in positive ageing and that our older years should be just as joyful and fulfilling as any other times in our lives. As individuals we want to feel valued and have a sense of purpose. As we get older, we can lose the physical and mental capabilities that have shaped us, which can lead to developing the feeling of losing our identity. This in turn can cause low mood and anxiety. We believe that mental health and happiness are just as important as physical health, in fact we believe that the two go hand in hand.

We are always aiming for excellence in person-centred care and have a range of objectives and ways to implement it. Through the combination of our person-centred care plans and our Enrichment Programme, we give our clients the very best individually tailored packages of care to promote positive ageing.

This combination, alongside strong communication with families and working closely with our carers to support them, ensures that Arbour Care can proudly say we are the very best at delivering the very highest quality live-in care.

Questions we ask
What do you really want to do each day?
How can we enable and support you to do it?
We all have plans and things we want to achieve or work towards, be it daily, weekly, monthly, annually, or even a life plan. We all have plans and things we want to achieve or work towards, be it daily, weekly, monthly, annually, or even a life plan. These might be something different now compared to a few years ago, but whatever they are our aim is to identify them and look for ways to support you to achieve them.

Case Studies : Margaret

Our client Margaret developed a visual impairment which was causing her to have low mood because she couldn’t do the things she used to enjoy doing. Margaret loved reading, needle craft, knitting, sugar craft and sewing but had completely stopped and put her books and projects away having given up hope of ever finishing them. Margaret began not wanting to go out and started to become withdrawn.

We spoke at length with her and discovered that by trying out different hands-free magnifying devices she could see clearly enough and was able to use her hands to work with. It was a revelation to Margaret!

She began using her tablet for reading, opening and reading her mail, doing baking, revisiting her craft projects and getting out in the community.

Benefits of Arbour Care’s Enrichment Programme

“Focusing on what we can do rather than what we can’t”

This programme is accessible to all, no matter what medical conditions you are living with. We create programmes of activity for individuals, based on your abilities and interests that are inclusive and varied. We aim to bring you the benefits of mental, physical, emotional, cultural and social wellbeing and give you achievable and enjoyable activities and challenges.

We are aiming to promote the sense of pride in one’s own achievements, to develop self-confidence and to enhance the feelings of independence and control.

In turn this promotes the sense of pride, develops self-confidence and the feelings of independence. These are all feelings that people need in order to prevent boredom and the feelings of having a lack of purpose.

For those who thrive on social interaction we will endeavour where possible to create real community connections, and if not actual then video face to face relationships can be created and developed.

Key Benefits:

  • Improved cognitive function: Engaging in activities that challenge the mind can help maintain memory and cognitive function.
  • Enhanced social connection: Providing opportunities to interact and socialise can combat feelings of isolation and loneliness.
  • Increased physical activity: Regular gentle exercise helps maintain physical health and mobility.
  • Positive mood and self-esteem: Participating in enjoyable activities can boost mood and lift the spirits.
  • Developing the sense of purpose: Structure and routine create self-worth and pride.
  • Promoting positive ageing: Feeling valued, listened to and respected.
  • Strong connections: Better communication between clients, carers and families.
  • Reminiscence: Re-kindling past hobbies and memories.
  • Bringing joy!

"My friend has received continuous live in care for the last three years from Arbour Care. All the carers they have provided have been very good and the last two carers, who have worked back to back, have been excellent in every way. They have always accompanied her to church and church activities which has been a real blessing. They have become very fond of my friend and she of them. The owner was very helpful in coming to see my friend and assessing her needs before we decided that live in care was appropriate and this was much appreciated as it gave my friend confidence that this was the right thing for her at that particular phase of her life. The staff are extremely friendly and have always been very co-operative. If I have had any queries they have always been extremely helpful and assisted me in every way. I have no hesitation in recommending their services."

Jacky Breadmore

"We used Arbour Care to provide care for our parents while we were on holiday. Our parents were originally reluctant to have someone living in their home but eventually agreed that it was the best option. The care they received was so good, the carer cooked delicious meals (I need some recipe ideas!) she was company for Dad and made it possible for us to enjoy our holiday knowing there was someone available if anything was to happen. We would have no hesitation in recommending Arbour Care to anyone looking for care providers."

Clare H

"The carers have been very good, one even using her free time to visit the husband in hospital and really going the extra mile."

"Arbour provided live-in carers for my wife for six years from 2017-2023 including the pandemic. My main impression is of a very professional organisation in which owners and staff worked all the time to provide the support the client needed at as high a standard as possible. They gave equal attention to statutory requirements, care plans and staff training and never cut any corners."

Mark

"The support that we have had from Arbour Care has been, quite literally, lifesaving. They found an amazing carer to look after my elderly and disabled husband, who is very experienced, kind and thoughtful. She has made an enormous positive difference to the quality of our lives and I will always be grateful to her and cannot thank her enough."

Jesse

"Arbour Companions & Care's support over the last 20 months has been amazing. They found a wonderful carer to look after my husband who has a physical disability, with additional support provided by her supervisor. As his medical conditions have become more complicated, they have supported the carer and me, finding solutions to keep him living at home. Separately, the conversations that I had with members of their office team have been helpful and professional. I would happily recommend their services."

AB Chobham

"On behalf of myself and my sisters, we would like to thank the whole Arbour team that helped care for our Aunty on and off for the last 2 years. Without their help and support, she would not have been able to stay in her home which she loved. The team's communication was superb and all were professional, caring and helpful. We would highly recommend them."

Fiona M

"Hello everyone! My name is Edit, and I'm thrilled to share a little bit about my journey as a live-in carer. For the past couple of years, I've had the privilege of providing care and companionship to an elderly lady. It's a role that truly comes from the heart, and I find immense satisfaction in ensuring her comfort and well-being every single day."

Edit

"I am very happy with the agency. I am grateful for the level of interest that your carers show, and your personal approach. You know all your clients really well and that shows."
